Artist Bio
William (Bill) Witherup (1935-2009) was a Seattle poet and author. His poetry collections include Down Wind, Down River: New and Selected Poems, Men at Work and Black Ash, Orange Fire: Collected Poems 1959-1985. Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1935, and grew up in Richland, Washington, where his father worked at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. He lived in the San Francisco Bay area from his late teens until 1989, when he moved to Seattle. In Seattle, Bill served as artist-in-residence for Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility and was an early influence behind Healthy World Theater and Particles on the Wall.
