Artist Bio

Gail Grinnell layers and collages fabric as others use paint. Her studio is full of works in process hanging to dry from a clothesline. She presents the assembled parts hanging so that the light can play through the transparency of the materials. Drawing as remained her main studio occupation since 2005. She has increased her vocabulary of materials to include sheer fabrics such as silk and spun polyester. These collaged fabrics are strong enough to be cut into the shape of the drawings.

A Seattle based visual artist Gail received her BFA from the University of Washington in 1988 and was represented by Francine Seders Gallery from 1993 to 2012 and is currently represented by the Gail Gibson Gallery, Seattle, WA.

She has participated in awarded residencies at Fundacíon Valparaíso in Mojácar Spain, 2007; The Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland, 2008 and again in 2010 with a two month fellowship; and the Jentel Foundation in Wyoming, 2010.

In 2008 she received an Artist Trust GAP Grant, in 2012 she was awarded a CityArtist Project Grant from the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs and Individual Artist Projects Grant from 4Culture and a GAP grant from Artist Trust.
