Artist Bio

Eric LoPresti (b. 1971) grew up in the desert steppe of eastern Washington State, near the Hanford plutonium production site. LoPresti’s paintings investigate the cultural aftereffects of dramatic conflict, focusing on the aftermath of the Cold War and its associated landscapes.

Recent solo exhibitions include “No Blue Skies” at Kunsthalle Galapagos (NYC), “Test Site” at the National Atomic Test Museum, part of the Smithsonian Institution (Las Vegas), “Different Country” at Like the Spice Gallery (NYC) and “Afterglow” at Washington State University

(Richland, WA). A winner of the Faber Birren Foundation Award and Miami Young Painters Award, his work has his work has received mentions in, among other publications, The New York Times, Art in America, Artforum.com, NYArts, ArtLog.com, Nature, The Denver Post, The Seattle Times, Vegas Seven Magazine and the Village Voice.

LoPresti holds a BA in Cognitive Science from the University of Rochester and an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He is currently working on an exhibition of data‐driven paintings in collaboration with the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network, to be shown at Sololab NY in 2013.

LoPresti lives and works in Brooklyn.
